Why Europe – A Think Tank approach
The 2017 big picture snapshot of Europe shows unique achievements
- A peace spanning seven decades, allowing two post-war generations to benefit
- a European Union of 500 million citizens and 27 member states
- enjoying freedom
- with common values, education and culture
- in one of the world’s most prosperous economies
- taking up global competition
- with labour opportunities, digitalization and technical progress
- with welfare and joy of life.
At the same time we face serious shortcomings and challenges
- Tiredness of citizens of bureaucratic, impersonal, sometimes intransparent EU politics
- saturation after years of growth in Europe
- aftermath of financial and economic crises
- companies, banks, stock exchanges and financial services suffering regulatory overkill
- EU countries moving at different speeds
- The Brexit, contagious as it is, and with potential spill-over effects
Where do we go from here?
